The first minors and precadet national training post covid was held this weekend at the Sport Wales National Dojo. Our squad had a great day, worked hard and learned loads.

The morning of Judo comprised of two one and a half hour sessions.

The first focused on Tachiwaza (throw) development with lots of throwing and loads of randori (sparring). The second focused on Newaza (ground work) again with lots of Randori and fitness. Our team were really pushed hard by Welsh Judo Performance Coach Stephen Abberley.

It was also a good opportunity for me to be involved with coaching at national training. We had a coaching meeting before and after the event and set out some targets for the coming months for our players.

The sessions had other coaches from Welsh and English clubs. We managed to grab a picture with one of them, Irfon Judo Club coach, Olympian, Commonwealth Champion, European medalist and world competitor Georgina Singleton.

While this training event had a number of covid restrictions, we hope to take more of our members up in the future to experience these sessions and develop their Judo.
