We travelled up to High Wycombe over the weekend for our first competitive run out of the year.
We choose this competition as we knew the standard in England would be high even for a lower grade event.
Our Red belt team, Billy, Izzy, Liv and Seb took to the mat in the morning. The officials and coaches created an encouraging atmosphere which helped with the nerves.
All four got stuck into their bouts with Liv and Seb getting their first ever wins. Our focus was very much on just enjoying the environment and trying to use their throws.
It was a long day and after a few hours break our precadet and cadet squad took to the mat.
We wanted our squad to get as much match time as possible and most groups were in pools which helped. The pools also had good experienced judoka in them which provided the challenge we wanted.
A few good wins from our squad, lots of mat time and loads more experience was gained. We’ve got a really busy couple of weeks as this age group builds to the British Schools in Sheffield in March.
