This weekend saw the restart of Welsh Judo‘s Cadet Talent Program. We attended with three judoka, Ben and Oli are already involved in the Welsh Judo Performance Pathway and this was Rhys‘ first experience of training at this level.
The weekend was used to provide the national coaches with baseline data on each judokas fitness, strength, power and endurance through a series of test. These included yo-yo beep tests, rope hangs, broad jumps etc. The players were pushed during the Judo sessions, improving technical and tactical ability.
These weekends are designed to challenge the judoka physically and mentally to prepare them for the challenges they’ll face at national and international competitive judo.
Selection for places to represent Wales at European level will be tough, and domestic national results form the foundation of the GB ranking list. Our Cadets will be looking to medal at the regional opens through the year.
This level of competition requires dedication and commitment to their training and nutrition plans.
I was very impressed with the level of performance from our Cadets at the training weekend! They all got stuck in and pushed themselves to their limits. Well done boys… you can be very proud of yourselves.
Who are the cadets? Cadets are junior players in school years 10-12.
